In 1986 Stephen D. Mears founded an independent title insurance agency—First American Title Company of Indiana, which was renamed First Title of Indiana, Inc. in 1998, when his son Adam became a co-owner of the company. Together, father and son grew the business by opening First Title of Southwest Florida, Inc. in 2002 in order to respond to the need for professional title services in the Ft. Myers area.
Over the past 20 years we have seen many independent agencies come and go. We are convinced
that our reputation for quality service, precision, and efficiency have served us well. Moreover, we’ve learned that
the being local owners allows us to provide quick decision-making and personal services to our customers. It also
allows us to be involved in our community. In Ft. Myers area our staff has been involved in the Mortgage Brokers
Association, Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce, Bonita Estero Association of Realtors, Realtor Association of
Greater Fort Myers and the Beach, Inc., Realtor Political Action Committee, Rotary of Estero, Women in Business,
Christian Chamber of Southwest Florida, both the Bonita Springs and Ft. Myers Women’s Council of Realtors, and the
Lee Memorial Hospital Blood Center.

After graduating from the Indiana University Law School, Stephen began his career as a zoning administrator for the city of Indianapolis. He continued his career as a Partner in a variety of small law firms in Marion County. In 1986 he started First American Title Company of Indiana and began to specialize in land use, real estate, and development law.

worked together to bring the famous Bloomington eatery
to Indianapolis in December 2003. They opened locations
in downtown Indianapolis, Broad Ripple, and West
Lafayette, IN. In 2006 the name of the Indianapolis
location was changed to Hot Box Pizza.
Today Mr. Mears continues his legal practice in addition to serving as General Counsel for First Title of Indiana, Inc. He is a highly-respected member of the Indiana legal community and a recognized authority and sought-after presenter in land use and real estate law.
Adam S. Mears

A graduate of the Indiana University Law School, Adam joined First Title of Indiana, Inc. in 1998. In 2002 Mr. Mears noticed an opportunity to expand the title business in Florida and opened first Title of Southwest Florida, Inc. in Ft. Myers. Today he, his wife, and three children split their time between Indianapolis and Ft. Myers.
Mears is a true entrepreneur. While still in Law School he owned two dry cleaning businesses and a pizza franchise. To share his interest and expertise, he has also served as the president and held several other positions on the board of the Indiana Chapter of the Young Entrepreneurs’ Organization. He is also on the board of the Broadmoor Country Club in Indianapolis.
